"Surprise! We are going to dinner at T.K. Thai." That's what Dave announced
after presenting me with a dozen roses. After I changed out of my work clothes
and into
a comfortable summer outfit, we were off to our favorite restaurant on
a warm, Sunday evening in August.
On the drive over, I decided against ordering our usual appetizer, spring rolls.
Dave balked and announced that he was going to order them, regardless. I conceded
since he wanted them so badly.
The hostess sat us in the back corner of the restaurant, and our much debated
spring rolls arrived at their usual time. But something unusual was laying on the
flower-shaped, carrot garnish. The words "Is that a ring?" came from my lips before I
knew that I was saying it. In an instant, Dave plucked the ring off the plate
and was on my side of the table down on one knee proposing.
